Is Meritus Closing?

Meritus has been placed under supervision by the Arizona State Department of Insurance (AZ DOI) and after exploring all options to come to a solution will regrettably wind down operations at the end of 2015. Meritus will not offer health insurance plans for 2016.

Existing policies have been honored through the end of 2015 and claims will be paid.

How will this affect my current insurance coverage?

After December 31, 2015, Meritus member benifits are no longer active.  

Meritus members will need to find new coverage. To avoid gaps in coverage you should enroll in a new plan.

You can shop for a new plan by working with a broker, a navigator or by calling the Marketplace at 1.800.318.2596. Plans for 2016 can also be reviewed at www.healthcare.gov

Can I continue to buy insurance through Meritus?

Meritus members will need to find new coverage.

Since your Meritus coverage has ended you can still enroll in a new plan between January 1, 2016 and March 1, 2016. Your coverage under your new plan will begin on the first day of the month after you select the plan. You generally must pay the first month’s premium by the deadline established by the issuer of your new plan for your coverage to begin.

What does the proposed wind down of Meritus mean to providers?

After December 31, 2015, Meritus member benefits are no longer active.Claims and Prior Authorizations for care provided after this date will not be approved by Meritus. Claims will be processed according to the original contracts for care received through December 31, 2015.

Can my doctor refuse to see me because of this situation?

Contracts between Meritus and medical providers remained in force through December 31, 2015. After December 31, 2015, Meritus member benefits are no longer active.

Will this change my premium?

No. Premiums for members did  not change during the 2015 plan year. Your premium may change when you purchase coverage through another carrier in 2016.

Do I need to keep paying Meritus?

Yes. You should continue to pay your insurance premiums through the policy period to keep your policy active. If you do not pay your premiums you will be subject to penalty for any month you go without coverage. For information about penalties visit www.healthcare.gov/fees/fee-for-not-being-covered/

Will my current plan change?

No, there was no change in current plans through December 31, 2015. After December 31, 2015, Meritus member benefits are no longer active.

Can I get a new policy now?

Meritus is not able to enroll new members or renew existing policies. Meritus members should choose a replacement health plan for 2016.
